It’s tradition in the brewery that every year the women on the production teams come together to spearhead a new beer — separate from the regularly programmed brewing and packaging they participate in day-to-day. It’s an opportunity to delve into the creative side of fermentation and oversee recipe development, with a goal of highlighting an underrepresented group in the industry.
This winter Lead Brewer Britt brought up Dark Milds as an area of interest. Could we tackle it in a Bellwoods way? Shine some light on a subtle but delicious style that doesn’t get a ton of hype these days? We were game.
She teamed up with Jen (a fellow brewer) and Ally (from the packaging team) to order ingredients, nail down a recipe, brew, package, and even play a role in the label design.
Today, that beer is finally ready in cans, and perfect for those who appreciate nuanced, malty flavours.
