After a summer spent strategizing and planning, we’re happy to announce the big news that Jelly King is headed to a limited number of LCBO locations. Though global domination will never be a goal of ours, this small step feels like a great way to reach more fridges and beer drinkers across the province.
We’re enthusiastically brewing our favourite dry-hopped sour in preparation for the launch, but we understand that with change comes questions. Why now? Is Bellwoods distributing anywhere else? Let’s give you some context and answers.
Back when we underwent our initial, small expansion into the space behind our 126 Ossington retail store, we approached the LCBO with questions about listing our beer. We discussed logistics, took a few months to gauge the demand of the newly opened Ossington retail store, and quickly realized that we didn’t have near the volume necessary to entertain such ideas.
Since firing up our Hafis production facility almost three years ago, we’ve worked to scale up volumes to meet local demand, and dabbled in exporting small shipments of beer to other provinces, the US, and occasionally Europe.
We’ve had a good run being the sole retailer of our packaged beer in Ontario, but the timing feels right to branch out into stores closer to you. We’ll begin self-distributing to a small handful of craft-beer loving locations across the province, with the intention of reaching as many locations as we can sustainably supply. Jelly King will be the same price in the LCBO as it is in our retail stores ($6.50/500mL). We have no immediate plans to add any more styles at this time, or branch further into grocery stores/The Beer Store.
We’ll keep you in the loop as dates and details come to us, but expect that the first bottles of Jelly King to hit select LCBO locations by next week!
